AR tests by title
AR tests by reading level

The Accelerated Reader program is a reading assessment that tests students on their reading comprehension for books they read. Students read a book on their grade level and take a multiple choice quiz on the computer. Based on their scores, students earn points.

After the student has completed a test, he/she gets immediate feedback in the form of reading points. The program awards reading points based on the length and difficulty of the book, as well as the number of questions answered correctly. In order to receive any points, he/she must correctly answer at least 60 percent of the test questions. The computer program keeps track of the tests students take and the points they earn.

These points add up to awards for the students. We have incentives at different point levels, such as earning a bookmark, receiving a free book, or to be recognized on the morning news show. These prizes are awarded approximately every nine weeks.

Twice a year we will have an AR store, in December and May. Students can use the points they earned to "buy" items from the store. All of the points must be spent at the Dec. store, they cannot carry over to the May store.

In order for your child to successfully participate in this program, please encourage him/her. Please set a designated time each day for your child to read for at least 20 minutes. Our goal is to help students begin the lifelong habit of choosing, reading, and enjoying literature.
