APRIL FLOWERS PRODUCE ALTAMA EAGLES POWER

April 1, 2008

Dear Parents,
Welcome back after a great Spring Break! I hope all of you had a wonderful Spring Break and Easter with your children. We have eight more weeks left in this school year. The time has really flown by quickly. I've had a wonderful year....I hope you have too.
Spring Pictures were sent home when we got back from Spring Break. If you would like to purchase any pictures, refer to the pricing guide and send the money to your child's teacher. If you do not wish to purchase, thank you for returning any pictures you are not purchasing back to school.
CRCT begins April 21-April 30. Our teachers and students have been working hard in preparation for this important test. Please continue to work with your children at home. You can visit our school website to find the link to the Georgia CRCT online or the Study Island websites. Grades 1 & 2 will test on April 21, 25, & 28. Grades 3-5 will test on april 22-24 & 29 & 30. The Media Specialist, Ms. Weiss has created a fun way for classes to practice test items for the CRCT using the buzzer system. Classes will compete in the annual CRCT Bowl beginning Thursday April 10, 2008. It will be lots of fun as everyone will receive prizes! Please use the following tips at home to prepare your child for success:

  • Have your child get a good night's rest by going to bed early.
  • Make sure your child gets a healthy breakfast (either at home or at school)
  • Make sure your child is present each day of testing.
  • Try to have your child at school by 7:45 each day of testing so they can get settled in their classroom before testing begins.
  • Encourage your child to do his/her best on the test.

We appreciate your support! We want all of our students to have a positive testing experience. If you have any questions regarding the CRCT, please contact your child's teacher or the guidance counselor.

PTA is still looking for parents to volunteer their service as officers. If you are interested in serving a two year term or would like to nominate someone, please call the school office or send me an email as soon as possible. New officers will be installed during our May PTA meeting.
Don't forget to complete an out- of- zone request form. We have several students who are attending Altama on special permission for various reasons. If you plan on having your child return to Altama next year, and you live out of zone, you must complete an out of zone request. The requests are required to be submitted every year. Parents will be notified by mail of approval or denial during the summer.

Reminders: Please have your child at school before 8:00 a.m. each morning. The tardy bell rings at 8:00 and we have several students late everyday. Use the side parking lot area to drop off students where there is staff supervision. We know that spring has arrived, but students are encouraged to be on their best behavior at all time. Please remind your child of how important school/class rules are and that they are expected to follow them. Disruptive/disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated and will be dealt with appropriately. We truly want the school year to end on a positive note for everyone.

We also know that Spring brings about a change in clothing. Please remember that the dress code must be followed at all times (ex. appropriated lengths, no spaghetti straps, etc.) and will be enforced by all school staff. This is to ensure that there are no distractions to the learning environment.

As always, your support and cooperation are greatly appreciated. Altama is very fortunate to have great students from great parents. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
