Risley Middle School (FINALIST) Carol McMurrain, the 2009-2010 Teacher of the Year at Risley Middle School and one of the five finalists, is in her 22nd year of teaching. She has been at Risley Middle School since 1987 where she teaches sixth-grade earth science. Principal Dr. Randal Harvey says, “Mrs. McMurrain has been a vital part of the Risley Middle School family for 21 years. She’s served as the science department chairperson and science fair coordinator for over ten years. She is also a Girl Scout leader and a member of Bible Baptist Church. Mrs. McMurrain graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in middle grades education in science and foreign language (Italian). She received her Master’s Degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Phoenix.”
