Academics  

BHS's Joan Nichols named Glynn County Teacher of the Year

At a special reception on Thursday, Nov. 13 hosted by the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce and the Glynn County School System, Brunswick High School Art Teacher Joan Nichols was named Glynn County's 2009-10 Teacher of the Year.  Pictured (L to R) with Glynn County Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Bull, last year's county Teacher of the Year Steve Kipp and BHS Principal Terry Graff, Nichols will now represent Glynn County in the state Teacher of the Year competition.  Georgia's 2009-10 Teacher of the Year will be named in April 2009.  Congratulations Mrs. Nichols!

The 18 teachers selected as Teacher of the Year at their respectives schools, and the Special Education Teacher of the Year, were honored by the community at the awards program held at Old City Hall in Brunswick.  Congratulations to all of Glynn County's Teachers of the Year!

Athletics  

GA wins wrestling tournament

The Glynn Academy wrestling team (pictured), currently 10-1 and ranked No. 6 in the state in the Class 4A wrestling poll, won a 16-team tournament held December 6-7 in Swainsboro.  1st Place: Cameron Gill, Nigel Hamilton, Dakota Fulks, Sean Metcalf, Mark Graham.  2nd Place: Mark Watson, Willie Loadholt.  3rd Place: David ZaDun, Colby O'Connor. 4th Place:  Maung ZaDun, Justin Hightower, Alex Fountain.  Congratulations GA wrestlers!

Arts  

The Big Read returns in January

The Golden Isles Arts and Humanities Association (GIAHA), in partnership with the Brunswick-Glynn County Library and the Glynn County School System, will present the The Big Read from January 5 through February 17, 2009.  A wealth of events and programs will focus on this year's Big Read classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, a warm and wise coming-of-age story set in the Depression-era south.  GIAHA and partners will make more than 500 copies of the book available to the public absolutely free.  For more information about The Big Read, click here.
