GA's Spencer inducted into Hall of Fame
Glynn Academy fine arts teacher Shirley Spencer was recently inducted into the Georgia Thespian Society Hall of Fame at the Bill Heard Theatre in Columbus, Ga. Spencer and 27 of her acting students were in Columbus to perform at the statewide Theatre Arts Conference when State Director Frank Pruitt made the surprise announcement in front of more than 3,000 thespian participants from schools throughout Georgia. Pruitt lauded Spencer for her years of excellence and energetic engagement with acting students at GA.
To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, a candidate must have 20 years of teaching experience, numerous accomplishments in theatre and be nominated by a student. Hayley Luhrs, president of the Glynn Academy Players Drama Club, nominated Spencer for Hall of Fame induction.
Spencer founded the GA players more than 20 years ago and has seen the school's theatre/performing arts program grow to include classes in drama and acting, musical theatre, technical theatre and dance.
